In a recent announcement on 2nd Sept. 2023, the Minister of Education revealed that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been granted university status. This decision comes as a significant development for the organization, which has been a prominent institution in the field of education in India for several decades. With this status, NCERT will now have the authority to offer and award degrees to students in various fields of study. This change is expected to enhance the reputation and academic standing of NCERT and provide students with more diverse educational opportunities.
NCERT has been given a University Status by the Education Minister of India. According to the announcement made by the Union Minister for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been given the status of deemed university.
At a celebration in the
nation's capital honoring NCERT's 63rd founding anniversary, he made the
statement.
The Council has made a significant impact on
research and actively influenced adult literacy, teacher preparation, and
schooling. The Council will provide prospects for international cooperation and
contributions to the global educational scene if it becomes a research
university, he continued.
- Jadui Pitara, a play-based learning and teaching resource created by NCERT for kids between the ages of 3 and 8, will emerge as a tool for transformation that will help the nation's 10 crore children, he emphasized.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of creating content in regional languages. He suggested that all seven NCERT regional centres should set up labs for augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. These labs should be equipped with the latest technologies available globally and have future-proof infrastructure. He believes this is necessary for India to become a global center for research and innovation. He also recommended that the Council align its ECCE's teacher training curriculum with NCERT.
In light of the "Industrial Revolution 4.0," Pradhan proposed creating short pamphlets on a variety of topics that would provide information on topics like Chandrayaan 3 and India's COVID-19 management. The newest advancements as well as Indian values and ethos must be conveyed to the next generations, he said.
Along with a song performed in 22 languages, the students from the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal, also performed a sketch about Jadui Pitara during the event. Several key Council efforts and accomplishments were featured in a brief film that was screened at the event.
On this occasion, Pradhan also opened a new
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the CIET.
